ABOUT THIS JOB

 

The Tools team within Data Science is responsible for owning, evolving, deploying and supporting the use of internal Nielsen software used by data scientists within Nielsen to do the core processes of RMS business for each country, incl. Sample Designs, RMS Universe Estimation, Back Trend Modeling, Bias Analysis, Variation and Standard Error analysis, Control Volume and expansion setup.
The Senior Data Scientist’s primary responsibility within this team will be to drive the evolution of VUE- our most complex tool for RMS Volumetric Universe Estimation, sales trend back casting and impact simulation; in partnership with others in the Data Science Tools team and Nielsen’s technology team, supporting users across Nielsen Data Science.
 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

- Conduct surveys with users (data scientists within Nielsen) and leaders of what needs they have in the process and understand their priorities

Design a solution for needs.

 

- Solutions may include:

--- New algorithms and models

--- Fine- tuning parameters for the existing models; making them flexible in the tool and/or setting them fixed by assigning a default value

--- Interactive visualizations for investigating results

--- Improving the User Experience Design of the tool

--- Automating tasks of the process external to the current scope of the tool (e.g. documentation, setup to reflect country business)

 

- Handling better big data 

- Support Technology team while developing

- Testing the solution

- Socializing the solution and training users on it

- Support the use when approached



 

 

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOU

 

Experiance data scientist with a big interest in innovations and problem-solving. Good science skills with eager to develop in technical or leader position. You have some experiance with designing processes and want to work globally.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Essential:

- Graduate degree in mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, or fields that employ rigorous data analysis.

- Demonstrated Business Process Improvement mindset (e.g. BPI certification, past projects led or participated in, implemented process improvements in past roles) or Software Design/ UX design mindset (e.g. completed a course, designed an app)

- 5+ years’ experience in at least one of the following fields: data science, statistics, data analysis, engineering, Software Design, UX Design, - - Product Ownership, or operations management/research

- Strong verbal, presentation, and written skills

- Strong critical thinking and creative problem solving skills

- Strong planning and organizational skills

- Proficiency in Python coding including experience with NumPy, Pandas 

- Familiarity with SQL, Oracle or other relational database software including manipulation of large data sets

- Proficiency in MS Office suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word) and/or Google Office Apps (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Gmail)

- Demonstrated success and effectiveness working in a time-critical production environment

 

 

Good to have:

- Experience in RMS

- Knowledge of CIP

- Experience in UU or handling impacts in RMS

- Familiarity with Data Visualization concepts and best practices, as well as software like Spotfire, Tableau, BI, or libraries like Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, ggplot 

- Familiarity with Apache Spark or other frameworks for parallel computing

- Knowledge of survey sampling methodologies

- Knowledge of machine learning and data modeling techniques such as Decision Trees, Random Forests, SVM, Neural Networks, Incremental - Response Modeling, and Credit Scoring
