Day to Day Job Responsibilities

The Corporate Web Services team within Nielsen is currently seeking a JavaScript-focused, highly technical and passionate Senior Software Developer to become part of the Corporate Web Services team.

Corporate Web Services resides within the Corporate IT Shared Services group, developing, maintaining and supporting a variety of Nielsen client facing applications, including the Answers Portal,, Intranet, Extranet, and others.  The Nielsen Answers Portal is a critical platform for both our Watch & Buy clients.  98% of all Nielsen clients utilize the Answers Portal to access their products and deliveries.  The Portal is a key delivery mechanism for Nielsen and integrates with over 1000 Nielsen products. is a key revenue driver for Nielsen and is a vital part of the day to day business relationships with clients. Nielsen DotCom and Answers Portal are platforms that support on average more than 10 billion transactions daily.  This area of digital is experiencing rapid growth with many new products, partnerships and adoption driving the need to expand our global footprint, our platform’s capabilities and our team!

The Senior Software Developer will be a leader on the Answers Portal team. The team is beginning an effort to re-architect the current Answers Portal and will need a strong technical leader who can communicate and implement the approach with the entire team. The team will be using new and interesting technologies and is looking for a Senior Software Developer who has a passion for learning and delivering great products.

Some key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Being the team’s frontend (JavaScript) development lead

  • Partnering with Development Manager to serve as lead development representative when discussing technical design and solutions with stakeholders

  • Working with Product Owner and User Experience team to transform business requirements into technical requirements.

  • Participating in detailed requirements, design, development, documentation and integration

  • efforts

  • Creating a process for both frontend and backend development Code Reviews to ensure that the code being delivered is clean and efficient

  • Participating in stand up calls with your assigned scrum team

  • Working with Scrum Master to ensure deliveries of sprints are on schedule

  • Partnering with QA resources on the team to deliver high quality code and features

  • Producing architecture documentation, specifications, POCs where appropriate

  • Technical interfacing with software vendors and internal clients as assigned

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • 5+ years IT experience in solutions development

  • Experience and/or understanding of the following technologies:

    • JavaScript (AngularJS, Polymer, ReactJS, Ember.js)

    • Backend JavaScript Frameworks (Node.js, Express.js, Meteor)

    • Responsive Design

    • HTML

    • Backend Knowledge of: Java, REST Web Services, Modern Database Technologies

    • RESTful/SOAP web services and APIs

    • Cloud based architecture technologies (AWS, Azure)

  • Previous experience working in Agile/Scrum environment

  • Ability to communicate technical design and solutions to business representatives

  • Experience reviewing and improving other developers’ code

  • Passion for technology
